Actually, the photographs are spaced ten years apart, not sixteen.

1912 to 1922.

The young, homeless (but no less dapper) wanderer shown in the first survived the sinking of the Titanic and swam to the shores of West Egg. There he built a life and a large, empty house, in an effort to win the heart of the wealthy, upper class woman he’d fallen in love with a decade earlier and had been separated from against his will.

He shed his earlier identity, and changed his name to reflect his new station. Jack was now known as Jay Gatsby, the eccentric millionaire who threw parties every night in the hopes that one day his love would show up and spin with him as they had long ago in the dance hall of the lower decks.

“You look like that actress, you know the one, she’s really famous.”

Which one is it today? Why on earth must each stranger I talk to inform me I look like a different famous actress? Can’t I just look cute? I want someone to exclaim “That hairstyle really compliments your face.” instead of “You know you kind of look like Brittany Murphy.” I want to look like me, not someone whose face is plastered all around you. Yes, I know they are compliments and I think it’s very sweet that strangers think enough of me to inform me that I remind them of someone they either think is attractive or see often. However I cannot wait for the day when a stranger goes up to a young woman and states “I don’t know if anyone has told you this but you look an awful lot like that famous writer, you know the one, Kerri Meloni!”
